Homeless Advocacy And Support (HAAS) Initiative

More than 7,000 people remain homeless in Maryland — including about 575 veterans.

Our goal to end homelessness in our communities is grounded in our belief that homelessness is a solvable problem. In keeping with this goal, we formed an advocacy group dedicated to this rampant issue. Our Homeless Advocacy And Support (HAAS) Initiative is dedicated to assisting homeless individuals in our communities to receive life-saving services.

Through this initiative, dozens of homeless individuals have received food, clothing, funds, and access to homeless shelters.

With access to homeless shelters, individuals can:

  1. Achieve stability to allow a path to recovery.
  2. Individuals who struggle with substance abuse can seek help and access critical recovery programs.
  3. Pursue personal goals and feel a sense of self-worth.
  4. Seek employment and a path to self-sustainment.

The goal and priority of our Homeless Initiative are not only to impact the lives of the homeless individuals in our communities but to identify and address the root cause.

Our Approach

  • Assist with housing: ensure the individual transitions to the community
  • Healthcare Integration: Assist with access to the healthcare system. The individual can receive medical, behavioral, and psychological help. This process is one of the primary keys to reducing recidivism into homelessness.
  • Promote Education: HAAS encourages and incentivizes individuals who are homeless and seeking access to educational programs. We believe that a strong educational background can reduce the number of homeless individuals in our communities.
  • Gainful Employment: Our advocacy team works with small local businesses and non-profit organizations to employ homeless individuals seeking employment and demonstrate a commitment to self-improvement. Most of the individuals we come across are just in need of an opportunity and should not be denied access to this fundamental human right.
  • Minimize contact with the Criminal Justice System: Our HAAS team believes that reducing encounters with law enforcement and preventing incarceration is essential in reducing the number of homeless individuals in our communities. As part of our Community Resource Relief Funding, we provide individuals with access to basic needs and emergency relief.

How YOU Can Help End Homelessness

Volunteering your time to work directly with people experiencing homelessness is one of the best ways to learn about homelessness and help to meet immediate needs at the same time. Through your volunteer work, you will gain an insight into the lives of homeless individuals in our community and become a more effective advocate.

Donate to our Community Initiative. We accept clothes, toys, and canned goods. These items are life-saving and are basic human necessities.
Raise Awareness. You will be surprised how many members of your family and friends are unaware of the staggering number of homeless individuals within our community. It is up to you to advocate for these individuals.
